Animations & Interaction

The Leeds Beckett University website occasionally uses animations to page elements and animated gifs to add impact to pages. If you wish to stop them from playing for accessibility purposes or for personal preference then please see the guidance below. Please note that browsers sometimes change how they operate, so please refer to your browser help files to find their latest information.
How do I turn off animations?

Chrome

Chrome users will need to use browser extensions. Animation Policy from Google will help you set your own preferences.

Microsoft Edge

There is currently no way to disable animations within Microsoft Edge. Users of Edge (Chromium) browser can install the Chrome extensions above and use them.

Internet Explorer

To stop animations on a single page you can just press the 'Esc' key. This will stop the animation on that page. If you wish to restart the animations you need to refresh the page. To permanently disable the playing of animated GIF images, open Internet Options > Advanced tab. Under the Multimedia section, uncheck the Play animations in webpage check-box, click Apply and Exit and then restart your computer.

Firefox

Type about:config in Firefox address bar and hit Enter to open Settings. Search for the image.animation_mode flag and change its value from Normal to None. Once you restart Firefox this will disable animations.

Entrance date: our programme starts each year in October.

Entry requirements

For successful entry candidates will normally be required to provide evidence of the following:

Qualifications – Undergraduate degree plus postgraduate qualification (ideally MA/MSc)
Work Experience – A minimum of three years applied experience working within the arts or as an independent artist
Non-English speaking countries - An overall IELTS score of 7 with no individual sub-score below 6.5

£4,500

Fees are £4,500 per annum for four years.

Mode of study

Your first year will be based around conveniently-timed workshops and classes, supported by group tutorials. These will enable you to develop and strengthen your research project. In the subsequent three years you will supported by a research supervisory team at one-to-one meetings through to submission. The programme is offered via blended learning which means that students can study online if they prefer.

The doctorate can be achieved via a traditional written thesis or via a practice route where a portfolio of creative work is supported by a shorter written exegesis.

RESEARCH PROPOSAL

Candidates will need to submit a 1,000 word research proposal alongside the standard doctoral application form. This will detail the area they will be investigating and should include a title, purpose of the project, references to relevant existing literature or other creative work, methodology, and proposed outcomes.
