confidentiality of our students

Protecting Student Information

We respect the confidentiality of our students’ personal lives and data both in the course of delivering our support services and in dealing with third parties. As your family member or friend is very likely to be over the age of 18, we will not be able to provide you with any information without their permission. Please see our Data protection page for more information on this. We can and do provide you with general information, but any specific information such as how a student is progressing, is not something we are able to discuss with you.

If you have a general concern about a student, then please speak to the relevant course team, or contact the Student Advice Hub, who will explain the support available:

For students under 18 years of age, our University is not under a duty to act ‘in loco parentis’, and the same restrictions apply on disclosure of personal information without a student’s consent. However, we operate according to our Safeguarding Policy on vulnerable groups to ensure the welfare and safety of our younger students.
