"I am a PhD candidate and Speech and Language Therapist specialising in working with people who stammer. Alongside my role at Leeds Beckett University, I run the Talking Out Residential, a specialist, stammering-affirming intervention for teenagers who stammer. The programme combines speech and language therapy with outdoor activities (climbing, canoeing, etc) and the experience of being away from home alongside a group of peers who also stammer. My research explores how the different elements of this intervention support young people in reshaping how they construe themselves and their stammer, and the impact this has on their sense of identity and everyday lives."
