Lewis Hepburn outlines his project.
'Exploring the Impact of Daily Probiotic Supplementation on Cognitive and Metabolic Health in Overweight Young Adults with Impaired Glucose Metabolism'
Lewis Hepburn
Lewis is a PhD researcher jointly based in the Human Behavioural Neuroscience Lab and the Carnegie School of Sport. His work explores how subclinical metabolic dysregulation, such as early impairments in glucose control, affects cognitive function and sleep, with a focus on identifying effective, accessible interventions. His first study is a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial investigating whether daily probiotic supplementation can improve cognitive performance, metabolic regulation, inflammation, and sleep quality. Targeting overweight adults with impaired glucose tolerance, the trial aims to assess whether probiotics offer a viable, non-invasive, non-pharmacological strategy to support metabolic and cognitive health in at-risk groups.
