URBAN GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE AND HUMAN HEALTH AND WELL-BEING IN THE RESIDENTIAL ENVIRONMENT: THE NIGERIAN EXPERIENCE

Adetoyese David Taiwo Oyedemi

The study employs a mixed-methods approach to investigate how urban green infrastructure (UGI) contributes to the health and well-being of residents in Nigeria. In the quantitative phase, data was collected and analysed by surveying selected households from neighbourhoods and users of chosen parks and gardens across two cities in Nigeria. Data was generated and analysed in the qualitative stage through qualitative interviews with residents and built environment professionals.

The study findings suggest that UGI is significantly associated with self-rated general health and correlated with health and well-being outcomes at the household level. Urban residents in the neighbourhood with UGI have better health and well-being outcomes than those with no or lesser UGI, and UGI's disservice can have adverse health and well-being impacts.

Adetoyese is currently a lecturer at the Department of Architecture, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Nigeria., teaching and research in the built environment in Higher Education.

He focuses on research on UGI, health, and well-being in the built environment., UGI and sustainability , and UGI in the Global South.
