frame : FOUR

The latest exhibition from the Early Cinema Research Group, Leeds.

Frame : Four – Lost and Imagined Films, is the latest exhibition by the Early Cinema Research Group at Leeds Beckett University.

Curated by Professor Rob Shail and researcher Irfan Shah, it will explore an alternative history of motion pictures, presenting a selection of films - some of which were made but are now lost to time; some of which remained on paper as scripts unrealised except in the imagination; and some of which still exist but are now hidden or inaccessible.

The exhibition will draw on original research as well as material from the recently acquired Stephen Herbert Archive, and will present productions that span over a century and range from drama to documentary and beyond. The exhibition will demonstrate how we can learn as much from the failed and forgotten as from the famous and acclaimed, and will introduce the visitor to a new way of looking at, and thinking about motion picture history.

Part One is an introduction to what we hope will be an expansive and thought-provoking project.
