lsa practice-based phd student journals
Practice is at the heart of a practice-based PhD (it’s in the name) but the research by practice is also accompanied by a written thesis.Â
PhD students in the Leeds School of Arts have the enviable task of working on several fronts, often simultaneously, and yet they manage not only to juggle theory and practice but then to bring them together to a remarkable point of synthesis. It is testament to this process, and the success with which it is achieved, that many PhD students are able to publish articles on their research in academic journals during the course of their studies. A glance at some examples published in the last twelve months show the variety and range of our PhD students: from visual ‘artist’s pages’ in Performance Research, to reportage drawings featured in Cogent Gerontology, from mother-son practice research to playing on the borders between ghost and guest.
