Professor Sextou’s research has pioneered the conceptualisation and development of a ground-breaking arts-based research model of direct benefit to hospitalised children’s health and preparation for clinical treatments. 'Glowing Stars', her current research in partnership with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust analyses the unique datasets she generated in MRI Paediatrics by using Digital Technology AR/Avatar with an underrepresented group of children from the age of 4 until 10. 'Glowing Stars' featured on the BBC North TV News (December 2024) as an outstanding example of academics improving healthcare services. Her research informs the 'Future Stories' VR and ARC-funded study in Queensland and Sydney Children's Hospitals in Australia, the developments of the Creative Health Malta Organisation in Europe and the works of Industry Technology partners in the UK and abroad.
