The Importance of Values for Governance

This more than a research project, it is a bold movement to transform leadership through integrity, purpose and collaboration. Launched in June 2023, this initiative unites the Worshipful Company of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (WCCSA) and Leeds Business School to champion values-centred governance across every sector.

With insights from the Chartered Governance Institute, the Quoted Companies Alliance and leading City of London voices, we share a collective conviction: values-driven governance is the cornerstone of resilient, ethical organisations.

Why Values Matter

  • Build Trust: When your actions match your principles, employees and communities rally behind your vision.
  • Drive Performance: A clear values framework sharpens decision-making, enhances risk management and unlocks sustainable growth.
  • Elevate Reputation: Consistent, transparent ESG leadership secures long-term stakeholder confidence.

Integrity in Action: Pioneering Values-Driven Governance

In today’s fast-changing, high-stakes world, organisations must do more than adapt—they must lead with integrity. Guided by its Charter to advance governance for the public good, the Worshipful Company of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (WCCSA), in partnership with Leeds Beckett University, has launched a bold initiative to embed values at the heart of leadership.

This project offers a practical, cross-sector framework to help organisations move beyond compliance, strengthen culture, and build lasting trust—especially in a post-Covid era of hybrid working.

Our team

Diagnostic

For managers and practitioners motivated to assess or develop how their organisational values are embedded and enacted within their organisation, we have developed an on-line tool to assist in the process. It involves a series of questions for the user to answer and, following each reply, there is access to information based upon the findings of our research study.

It is envisaged that completion of the questions, together with access to the accompanying information following each question, will support you in assessing how focused you are on the importance of values for your organisation and the potential impact of this across a number of areas. It is hoped that the tool will assist you in assessing areas and working practices in which the prominence and enactment of your values can be enhanced within the organisation. It is expected that completion of the exercise will take approximately 30 minutes. All data provided within the tool remains strictly anonymous and the information will assist us in building further on our research findings.
