Turnitin New Features FAQ

Turnitin is a suite of online submission, text matching, and feedback tools available through MyBeckett. It enables students to submit assignments electronically and supports marking, feedback, and academic integrity processes.

When creating a new Turnitin assignment, you will be able to choose from the following assignment types:

• Standard: The new Turnitin assignment experience, featuring updated Feedback Studio marking tools, enhanced accessibility, and new functionality
• Multipart: Allows you to create assignments with multiple submission parts using the new Standard assignment experience
• Standard (Classic): The existing Turnitin assignment format with the current Feedback Studio marking and feedback tools

The new Standard assignment includes several enhancements for instructors.

• Individual Extensions: Grant deadline extensions to individual students, supporting reasonable adjustments and specific learning requirements
• Template Exclusion: Allow students to submit work using a provided template while excluding the template text from similarity matching
• AI Writing Indicator Column: View AI writing detection scores directly from the assignment submissions list
• Bulk Similarity Report Regeneration: Update similarity report settings and regenerate all similarity reports for an assignment in one action
• Accessibility Improvements: Benefit from an enhanced, more accessible user experience
• Comment and QuickMark Colour Customisation: Personalise the colour of comments and QuickMarks to support your marking workflow

The following features are not currently supported in the new Standard assignment:

• PeerMark
• Grading Templates

If you rely on either of these features, you should continue using Standard (Classic) assignments.

Yes. Existing Turnitin assignments will continue to function as normal.

When creating a new assignment, you can continue to use the current Turnitin experience by selecting Standard (Classic) during setup. Further guidance is available on our Turnitin pages.

Yes, if you have created Rubrics and QuickMarks in the previous version of Turnitin, you can use the data migration service to move them. More information is available in the Turnitin guidance below.
