Anxious about your exam or assignment? That's normal.
Exams and assessments can be a stressful time. Library and Learning Services offer help with academic skills, library and student IT advice, your online submission, and so much more.
Academic Skills
Our Skills for Learning website is full of useful resources, including information on Revision and Exams and Independent Learning & Time Management.
It also has pages that can help from the start of the assignment process to getting ready to hand in. These include Essay Writing, Finding Information and Reading to Editing & Proofreading and Referencing.
If your course requires you to complete a different type of assignment, maybe a poster, a reflective journal or a vlog or blog our alternative assessments explained blog post is full of useful information and links to help you with these. Or if you’re starting to think about your dissertation, there are webpages on Literature Reviews and Dissertations.
The Skills for Learning team provide online workshop recordings and produce Podcasts covering lots of topics that can help you with your assignments and preparing for your assessments.
Your subject guides can also be a really useful resource, highlighting key resources for your subject and providing the details and links for the Academic Engagement and Resources team who offer one to one appointments to help you.
To support you during the exam and hand-in period the Academic Engagement and Resources team will be running daily drop-in sessions in the Academic Skills Area, Sheila Silver Library, City Campus, between Monday 20th April and Friday 15th May. These are informal drop-in sessions (no need to book) where an Academic Skills Advisor will be on hand between 1pm and 2pm, Monday to Friday (11:30am -12:15pm on Thursdays) to answer questions about referencing, finding information for your assignments, academic writing, dissertations, exam support and using AI correctly in your work.
Studying away from the Library? You may want to use our Study With Me video. This video creates a virtual study space, using techniques like the Pomodoro method (focused work/break cycles) with ambient sounds and aesthetically pleasing views.
Library and Student IT Support
Library and Student IT Advice is your first point of contact for research and referencing skills, borrowing, passwords, MyBeckett, email, Wi-Fi, Turnitin, online meeting tools, Office 365 and much more.
You can check their IT Support web pages and frequently asked questions or you can contact them via phone and chat plus email during the day. Online chat is available 24/7 (during staffed hours our chat service provides Library and Student IT support. Outside of staffed hours our chat service can only assist with library related queries e.g. referencing).
They are also on hand in both campus Libraries to help you set up your devices to study on campus or at home.
Online Submissions
Our submitting your assignment online blog has lots of useful information on how the Library can help you through this process.
We also have helpful videos on the Library and Learning Services YouTube channel that show you through the whole process from submission to feedback.
Wellbeing and Support
During the Exam and hand-in period, we will be running and number of free, drop-in Craft and Relax Sessions in the library. You can find out more about them on our Exam Ready Webpage.
We also have areas in both libraries where you can sit and relax. There are books to read and swap, board games to play, mindful colouring sheets and jigsaws to complete. These are great places to go to take some time out from studying.
Student Wellbeing offer advice and support on lots of issues, as well as signposting other helpful support services and resources.
Doing regular physical activity helps you feel good about yourself, improve your fitness and wellbeing, and meet new people and form lasting friendships.
There are lots of things you can do to give your physical wellbeing a boost from sport or active recreational activities to simply everyday activities such as walking to university. The Sport and Active Lifestyles website has more information about how to get involved.
Disability Advice provide support, information and guidance to disabled students so you can access your studies and university life. The Library also has a dedicated web page and one-to-one support to help you use the Library and find information, including obtaining material in alternative formats.
