The event took place in The Knowledge Exchange, located in the Rose Bowl of our city campus, and featured speakers Helen Holleman and Gaynor Cross from Leeds Business School. Sandwiches, cake, fruit and coffee were provided, and everyone - from employers thinking of enrolling staff on the programme to aspiring digital marketers - was welcome.

Helen, the School Head of Degree Apprenticeships, provided a detailed overview of the programme. The programme is paid for by employers, or, in the case of SMEs, 95% of the costs are covered by the government, with employers paying for only the remaining 5%.

The duration of the apprenticeship is 42 months, or 3.5 years, and will combine academic learning as well as on-the-job learning. Apprentices will attend university once a week and will spend the rest of the weekdays with their employer, with additional time provided for completing assignments. At the end of the degree apprenticeship, apprentices will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Gaynor, the Course Director for Digital Marketing, presented the subject areas apprentices on the course would be studying, from Marketing Essentials to Strategic Marketing and Digital Optimisation, as well as the diverse range of effective teaching methods on the course, from the standard lectures and seminars to case studies, client briefs and flipped classrooms.

For more information about the course, including funding, modules and term dates, visit our online prospectus. Apply by 30th November for a January 2024 start.

Attending employers and employees then took part in a valuable and insightful workshop session featuring the graphic design tool Canva. The session provided feedback on their marketing content from Gaynor, an expert in the subject, as well as a taster of what apprentices’ classes may look like.

Digital marketing is a rapidly growing industry. Many businesses have realised its importance in today’s day and age, with worldwide spending on digital marketing expected to reach over £800 million by 2026, over double of what is spent on traditional marketing. However, despite all this, almost half of businesses active in digital marketing have no digital marketing strategy. Through this event, employers, employees and aspiring digital marketers gained valuable insight into a fantastic opportunity for employers to boost their company’s success.

The Knowledge Exchange frequently hosts and promotes a multitude of great opportunities and events and is committed to innovation, enterprise and its mission to help smaller businesses to flourish.
