We were delighted to welcome so many of our external partners to the Computing Industry Day held at Headingley Campus on Thursday 25th January, organised and managed by Course Director of Cyber Security and Digital Forensics Dr Pip Trevorrow, School Careers and Employability Consultants Nyree Hardie, and Mike Hall.

The morning session delivered an account of ‘a day in the life’ by Chris Spinks – Head of Operations at Cyjax, as well as Barney Ellinas-Gilks and Lewis Graham - both alumni from the Computer Forensics and Security award who now work for Pentest People. There were also talks from Alice Garthwaite – from the forensics team at West Yorkshire Police, Patrick Marren – Client Executive from UST, Richard Bartlett – Development & Support Manager from Leeds City Council, and Hannah Bratley - CEO of FRAME. The talks were all inspiring and provided real links between the degree awards and potential careers.

The morning culminated with an alumni and placement panel where we welcomed back Jordan Powel - Cyber Security placement student, Maja Dobrowolski - Robotics graduate now working at FRAME, Oliver McLaughlin - Computer Science graduate now working at Cognizant, and Kevin Brewster - Computer Science graduate now working at Tombola. The questions were abundant, and the panel were able to provide plenty of great ideas and experiences of moving from study to a career.

The afternoon saw some speed networking opportunities for our students as they worked their way around tables of our external partners: Cyjax, LCC, bet365, WYP, UST, FRAME, as well as a table of Level 6 students, providing their experiences on placements. Overall, it was a fantastic experience that had our students asking for more.
