Your course is delivered through a number of modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. What you'll learn
Create and deliver successful hospitality marketing initiatives. You'll learn to develop and deliver irresistible, memorable and communicable hospitality products and services. The module draws on the disciplines of psychology, sociology, social anthropology, ethnography, marketing, behavioural economics and neuroscience. It enables you to understand how consumers acquire, use, experience and discard a variety of hospitality products and services and how they respond to marketing initiatives. You'll enhance your pragmatic problem-solving skills as you develop inductive, deductive and abductive reasoning abilities, which will ultimately help to improve consumer experiences and marketing initiatives. In addition, you'll build your understanding of moral and ethical principles so you can develop and deliver products, services and marketing initiatives in a responsible way.
Explore the meaning of hospitality and how the industry has evolved. You'll study how the sector went from simply hosting guests to becoming businesses which provide food, drink and accommodation. You'll also explore how organisations have progressed to provide personalised services, interconnected cultural experiences and infotainment in a socially responsible and sustainable way. In addition. the module looks at the diversity of the sectors, from small to multi-million-pound businesses. You'll consider how these businesses operate efficiently and effectively to achieve success now and in the future.
Acquire and develop your academic and professional skills through your learning and paid or unpaid work. This module provides a structured programme of experience and reflection to ensure you successfully master key transferable skills that you’ll utilise throughout your academic career and beyond. To begin, you’ll carry out an academic skills audit and reflect on areas you’d like to improve. Next, you’ll create a detailed development plan with realistic learning objectives based on skills gaps you’ve identified. Overall, this module will help you to understand the professional competencies, roles, and responsibilities within the hospitality industry.
Study the fundamentals of financial and revenue management for operating businesses. You'll learn how to analyse financial statements, plan budgets and use financial data to inform decision making. Through case studies, you'll engage in discussions and debates with your peers, using real business examples to bring the material to life. This module will ensure you understand the synergy of financial capabilities and how to maximise value and profit in hospitality business management.
Gain a comprehensive understanding of marketing principles and practices within the hospitality industry. We’ll cover key concepts essential for success in this field, with a focus on market research, digital tools, and creative content development. You’ll learn to analyse various hospitality segments and effectively target them through research, while exploring how digital tools and activities can enhance guest experiences and foster lasting memories. We’ll also look at the creation of innovative and industry-recognised content that aligns with current and future hospitality trends and practices. By the end of the module, you’ll be equipped with the skills to design and implement effective marketing activities using innovative digital approaches and tactics tailored to the hospitality industry.
Learn how to identify a range of responsible methodologies used by successful hospitality organisations in managing their supply chain, including industry best practice. This module enables you to demonstrate how these modern approaches can contribute to the efficient, effective and overall performance management of food and beverage organisations. You'll begin with theoretical study in the classroom, before applying your knowledge in a relevant hotel department through work-based learning opportunities.
What you'll learn
Discover the world of corporate events and learn what it takes to plan and run them successfully. You'll respond to a client brief and develop a corporate event pitch, exploring everything from site destinations and transportation to programme planning, food and beverage provision, venue layouts, facilities, and technology. Week by week, you'll build the knowledge, skills, and strategies used to manage successful international corporate events and hospitality experiences. Along the way, you'll also engage with current trends and challenges in the sector, preparing you to deliver events that impress clients and delight attendees alike.
In response to the social trend in customer demands for more experiential leisure activities, hospitality operators need to up their experiential hospitality game in an effort to influence the consumers' experience. This module examines the concepts of service operations and quality management. You'll review your own role in enhancing customer satisfaction and shaping the hospitality experience in order to drive organisational success.
Conduct a critical review of destination planning, development, and management, with a focus on its implications for hospitality management. This module will help you to understand and analyse the social, political, economic, and environmental contexts in which destination management takes place. You'll look at this from international, national, regional, and local levels, covering the relationship between hospitality management and destinations. Finally, you'll examine the different aspects of destination management considering diverse political, environmental, community and commercial interests.
Dive into the world of immersive live experiences and explore the theories, techniques, and strategies that make them truly engaging. You'll expand your understanding of audience development and discover how to capture attention and create lasting impact. Collaboration and co-creation sit at the heart of this module, as you draw inspiration from theatre and set design, creative production, and experiential design. You'll have space to experiment, take creative risks, and apply design thinking to real industry briefs, helping you build the confidence to craft experiences that captivate and inspire.
Develop your understanding of theoretical perspectives and practical examples related to planning and managing product development and innovation in the hospitality sector. This will include examining sector-specific food production, recipe development and menu engineering. The module enables you to understand and analyse new innovations and trends related to product developments as well as health and well-being and nutritional concepts. You'll also look at different aspects of hospitality innovations considering various political, environmental, community and commercial interests.
Study the recruitment, selection, training and development of talent in the hospitality industry. You'll adopt a responsible approach to managing human resources and be able to select the most appropriate methods to ensure effective and ethical labour management. This module will teach you to be critical and questioning of literature and current industry practices regarding talent development in hospitality.
What you'll learn
Hospitality presents particular challenges to managers. To be part of an organising team, you'll need to understand the risks associated with hospitality management. During this module, you'll learn to address issues such as crowd management and other risks related to the venue, event and surrounding environment. We'll examine the wider involvement of local authorities, the police and emergency services in the multi-agency approach to emergency management.
Undertake a consultancy project related to specific issues facing the tourism and hospitality industries. Working as part of a small team, you'll use problem-solving methods and project management techniques to address a brief which will be set by external industry clients. You'll be able to adopt innovative approaches to finding solutions to real industry challenges. The module develops and assesses your skills, knowledge and professionalism as you manage and realise the project. You'll also build key professional networking skills through opportunities with the industry.

Explore the power of experiential marketing and brand activation, discovering how creative event sponsorship can build genuine emotional connections between brands and audiences. You'll learn how to design immersive, memorable experiences that go far beyond traditional logo placements - crafting interactive brand moments that leave a lasting impression. The module also examines the relationship between sponsors and event organisers, showing how effective activations can enhance event quality while achieving brand objectives. With a focus on innovation, ethics, and creativity, you'll develop a clear understanding of how sponsorship can drive meaningful engagement, inspire loyalty, and contribute to long-term success for both brands and events.
Understand the importance of strategically managing the hospitality industry, and its associated stakeholders, by creating and presenting food and drink places and spaces. This module will introduce the hospitality industry’s role in strategically creating food and drink value for places and spaces; be they countries such a France, Mexico or Thailand, or regions such as the Champagne Region, and cities from London to New Orleans or Marrakesh. You'll then explore the management, marketing and imagery of food and drink places and spaces. The final part of this module will review the sensory experiences and pleasures that consumers seek from the food and drink in specific places and spaces.
Fuel your passion for enterprise and explore what it takes to create a business in the tourism, hospitality, and events industries. Using practical frameworks for business planning and development, you'll take an idea from initial concept through to launch and growth, while also considering potential exit strategies. Throughout the module, you'll examine what makes entrepreneurs successful and reflect on your own entrepreneurial strengths. By the end of the module, you'll be able to critically analyse the requirements for starting and running a successful business, ready to turn your ideas into reality.
Demonstrate your ability to be an independent learner and learn to critically evaluate secondary and primary sources of data to draw well-justified conclusions. You'll initiate, plan, research, sustain and evaluate an extended piece of independent academic work based on your individual initiative. This module provides an opportunity for you to work on something that not only interests you but can also impress potential future employers.
Expand your understanding of the tools and techniques needed to plan and deliver successful fundraising campaigns. You'll explore key fundraising principles, learn how to develop effective funding bids, and discover how these approaches are applied across the events industry. The module also examines the motivational, political, and cultural factors that influence fundraising and fundraising events. Your learning will be grounded in real-world practice, drawing on insights from organisations and professionals working within the fundraising field. Upon completion of this module, you'll have the confidence and creativity to design innovative campaigns that make a real impact.
Gain an academically informed understanding of corporate social responsibly, including ethical governance, environmental issues and ethical practices within society. You'll review how and why businesses consciously develop their engagement in socially responsible strategies for the ultimate benefit of their stakeholders. Finally, you'll build the skills to successfully develop responsible hospitality businesses and the knowledge required by managers operating in the private, public and third sector.
Within the sponsorship industry, events have become a strategic vehicle for brands to associate themselves with, or as a communications tool to promote a brand. Together, we’ll look at the impact of sponsorship on major sporting, cultural, or fundraising events, enabling you to develop strategies that responds to a client’s needs. We’ll also identify issues related to sponsorship strategy and sponsorship partnerships. Sponsorship in Events aims to develop your understanding of the strategic implications of event sponsorship, based on an ethical approach. You’ll cover key principles in terms of brand, communications, and relationship building for the sponsoring organisation as well as the financial, partnership, and image implications for the event organiser.
Combine your creative, academic and professional skills to reach a solution to a task negotiated and agreed on with your industrial placement employer. You'll explore a range of materials and information as you identify and critically analyse a real-life issue and propose innovative solutions to an organisational challenge. This module is undertaken in addition to your industrial placement. It builds on the learning, experience and skills you've gained throughout your studies and your time in industry.
This course offers the opportunity to take a ‘placement’ year – a year of paid employment in industry which will build your skills and experience. This is usually taken between the second and third year of your degree and will extend the length of your course by an additional year.
Students who choose the placement route find it helps with both their studies and getting a job after graduation. It can build your confidence, contacts, and of course your CV. Leeds Beckett advertise lots of placement opportunities and provide support in helping you find the right placement for you.

Other study-related expenses to consider: materials that you will need to complete your course such as books (whilst the library provides access to readings recommended for your modules, you may wish to purchase your own copies of some books); you can also make suggestions for books to be added to Library stock; placement costs (these may include travel expenses and living costs); student visas (international students only); printing, photocopying and stationery (you may need to pay for multiple copies of your dissertation or final project to be printed and bound); events associated with your course such as field trips; study abroad opportunities (travel costs and accommodation, visas and immunisations). Other costs could include academic conferences (travel costs) and professional-body membership (where applicable). The costs you will need to cover for graduation will include gown hire and guest tickets, and optional extras such as professional photography.
As well as your mobile phone, you will also need access to a desktop computer and/or laptop to complete assignments and access university online services such as MyBeckett, your virtual learning environment. You can book and borrow AV equipment through the media equipment service accessed online via the student hub and located in the library at each campus. Equipment includes: 360 Cameras, iPads, GoPros, MacBooks, portable data projectors, portable projection screens, flipchart stands, remote presenters, digital cameras and camcorders, SLR cameras, speakers, microphones, headphones, headsets, tripods, digital audio recorders and PC/laptops (a laptop loans service is provided on campus in the library on both campuses). Student laptops are also available from the laptop lockers located in the libraries.

Other study-related expenses to consider: materials that you will need to complete your course such as books (whilst the library provides access to readings recommended for your modules, you may wish to purchase your own copies of some books); you can also make suggestions for books to be added to Library stock; placement costs (these may include travel expenses and living costs); student visas (international students only); printing, photocopying and stationery (you may need to pay for multiple copies of your dissertation or final project to be printed and bound); events associated with your course such as field trips; study abroad opportunities (travel costs and accommodation, visas and immunisations). Other costs could include academic conferences (travel costs) and professional-body membership (where applicable). The costs you will need to cover for graduation will include gown hire and guest tickets, and optional extras such as professional photography.
As well as your mobile phone, you will also need access to a desktop computer and/or laptop to complete assignments and access university online services such as MyBeckett, your virtual learning environment. You can book and borrow AV equipment through the media equipment service accessed online via the student hub and located in the library at each campus. Equipment includes: 360 Cameras, iPads, GoPros, MacBooks, portable data projectors, portable projection screens, flipchart stands, remote presenters, digital cameras and camcorders, SLR cameras, speakers, microphones, headphones, headsets, tripods, digital audio recorders and PC/laptops (a laptop loans service is provided on campus in the library on both campuses). Student laptops are also available from the laptop lockers located in the libraries.

If you choose to study via distance learning, you may not be able to access all of the facilities listed if you are not able to visit us on campus.
