Learn the essentials of business leadership, critical thinking and analytical skills, underpinned with a thorough grounding in the key principles of business management.
By specialising in human resources, you will gain an understanding of how to use an organisation's best resource - its workforce - to achieve its strategic goals and get the very best out of each individual and team. You will also study key perspectives on human behaviour, how these behaviours are affected by times of uncertainty and change and what you can do to mitigate these challenges.
This course is ideal for graduates of non-business related courses who want to boost their employability by adding fundamental business and management skills to their CV - with a particular leaning towards human resource management.
With a strong focus on practical learning, you will make use of our purpose-built business simulation suite, allowing you to devise rapid response strategies to address a range of business-critical challenges and crisis situations. Immediate feedback from a facilitator will help evaluate and improve your analytical and decision making skills.
You will be taught through lectures, seminars and tutorials, using both individual and group work. Your tutors are academic experts, many of whom are Fellows of the Higher Education Academy, and industry practitioners, qualified to professional chartered status in their respective fields.
Our modules have been co-designed by our academic staff and an industry advisory panel to ensure the knowledge and capabilities you develop match senior level responsibilities in organisations across all sectors.
For hands-on experience, you can choose to undertake a consultancy project with one of our partner organisations. You will negotiate the project's finer details directly with the client and present your research to your client and academic supervisor.
A guest lecture programme throughout the year will provide networking opportunities with presenting organisations. Past speakers have included the CEO of the London Stock Exchange and the deputy agent of the Bank of England in Yorkshire and The Humber.

We may use selection criteria based on your personal attributes; experience and/or commitment to the area of study. This information will be derived from your personal statement and reference and will only be used if you have met the general entry requirements.
Independent study is a crucial part of learning at university and you will be required to undertake many hours of self-directed research and reading, and preparation and writing of assessments. Your course is delivered through a number of modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. Our subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct you to the specialist learning and study-skill resources. You’ll also be assigned an academic advisor to give you tailored feedback and support.

Gain a critical understanding of contemporary accounting and financing principles which support business decision-making and financial resourcing in both the private and public sectors.
Develop your knowledge and understanding of the principles and theoretical foundations which govern the modern marketing environment, allowing you to progress in a specialised area of marketing such as international or services marketing.
Develop a strategic organisational perspective as well as a basis for progression and application of strategic level skills, competencies, and decision-making capability.
Develop functional knowledge and a critical understanding of key perspectives on human behaviour within the organisation and on the nature and processes of organising and managing human activity.
What you'll learn
Complete a project that explores a key issue for a client organisation - a small business, public sector organisation, social enterprise etc. You'll focus on a key issue that the client organisation requires intelligence and information to help them tackle and address. In working with the client organisation, you'll develop and negotiate a suitable project involving the collection and analysis of a range of data and information.
Undertake an in-depth research project in a subject area that is appropriate to your course and your interests.

- Library membership, giving access to more than 500,000 printed, multimedia and digital resources
- Access to software, including five free copies of Microsoft Office 365 to install on your PC,laptop and MAC, and access to free high-end software via the Leeds Beckett remote app
- Loan of high-end media equipment to support your studies

Other study-related expenses to consider: materials that you will need to complete your course such as books (whilst the library provides access to readings recommended for your modules, you may wish to purchase your own copies of some books); you can also make suggestions for books to be added to Library stock; placement costs (these may include travel expenses and living costs); student visas (international students only); printing, photocopying and stationery (you may need to pay for multiple copies of your dissertation or final project to be printed and bound); events associated with your course such as field trips; study abroad opportunities (travel costs and accommodation, visas and immunisations). Student laptops are also available from the laptop lockers located in the libraries.

Professor George Lodorfos
Dean of School / Leeds Business School
George has extensive practical and academic experience in the field of strategic management, R&D (research and development) and the adoption of new technologies and innovation. He has done extensive research and enterprise work in the area of buyer behaviour, with particular interest in online purchasing and the use of technology to enable the sustainable growth of businesses. He has also supervised and examined many PhDs both in the UK and Europe and is an external examiner for two UK universities.
