Brno, a city of engineering and textile industries since the late 18th century, flourished as a metropolis of modern art and architecture in the period between the two world wars, when functionalist buildings were built for the government as well as for Czech and Jewish German entrepreneurs.
The exhibition, featuring the centrepiece Villa Tugendhat by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, presents Brno buildings by Bohuslav Fuchs, JiÅ™í Kroha, Josef Kranz,
BedÅ™ich Rozehnal, Ernst Wiesner, Otto Eisler, Norbert Troller, Endré Steiner, architects who were included by Henry-Russell Hitchcock and Philip Johnson in their seminal exhibition The International Style – Architecture since1922 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1932.
