Montessori Leadership in challenging times
The notion of 'challenging times' is both a cliché and an understatement. In recent years, the COVID pandemic, economic austerity, and polarised political debates have resulted in anxieties and difficulties in the lives of many. Across education contexts a lack of funding, policy neglect and the social and emotional consequences of the pandemic have had far reaching consequences.

Yet despite these challenges, education leaders in the sector have demonstrated inordinate strength and capacity in supporting children, families, and colleagues. For many Montessorians, values-based leadership, inspired by Maria Montessori's own work has resulted in work informed by compassion, collaboration, and a sense of community.

The notion of Montessori leadership is a much-debated concept. This conference brings together a range of speakers from different contexts with diverse experiences of and understandings of leadership. They will share practical experiences, theoretical debates, and empirical research to explore contemporary notions of 'Montessori' and 'leadership'. We invite you to join the discussion.

This online International Montessori Institute conference will:

  • Highlight a range of perspectives from research and practice on the impact of Montessori leadership in diverse communities
  • Discuss leadership models which move from hierarchy to collaboration
  • Provide opportunities for discussion about the challenges and prospects for Montessori inspired approaches to leadership
  • Explore notions of 'critical hope' and 'radical joy' in the work of Montessorians

Through the event we aim to highlight recent research and initiatives, share knowledge, build networks, and nurture hope.
