Leeds School of Arts

A centre for creative exploration and growth

The brand-new state-of-the-art £80million Leeds School Arts building features a wealth of outstanding specialist facilities across Creative Technologies, Fashion Marketing, Film, Music & Sound, and Performing Arts. These include a 180-seat performance theatre; a 220-seat cinema; industry standard film and green screen studios; a black box theatre; Foley studios; dubbing and music recording studios; acoustic labs and numerous post-production suites. There are also a host of flexible teaching and study spaces, a café, and event spaces including two large roof terraces with stunning views across the city centre. 

 

 

As well as a centre for creative exploration and growth, Leeds School of Arts is a focus for the cultural life of the city itself. Leeds is undergoing a renaissance, driven by a booming creative sector and galvanised by the arrival of major players such as Channel 4. The Leeds School of Arts building ensures our creative practitioners and students are uniquely placed, not just to benefit from Leeds' flourishing creative landscape, but to add their own creative energy to the transformation of the city.

Creative Technologies

A dedicated specialist studio equipped with Apple iMacs featuring the full Adobe Suite, Cinema 4D and additional production software to enable students to create work in graphic design, video, motion graphics, 3D animation, VR and web production.

Fashion Marketing

In our fashion marketing studios students will have access to industry standard equipment and software including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Premiere Pro. The flexible teaching and study spaces are designed in such a way that they help simulate the experience of working within a professional studio, where students can collaborate across different disciplines in order to develop and execute a range of creative projects.

Film

Use of our industry standard film studio facilities includes access to specialist equipment, including ARRI ALEXA cameras, professional grade sound recording equipment and lighting, along with the expert help of teaching and support staff. In addition to this, students will have access to our Dolby Atmos-accredited cinema, project planning spaces and a range of pre and post production facilities, including:

Commercial style cinema with 220 seats and a large projection screen at the front.
Film studio with a curved sided green screen on the floor and up 3 walls.
Desk with several large monitors and speakers with seating for a number of people.
Desk with several large monitors and speakers with seating for a number of people.
Large office style space with a large table and seating for 10+ people.
Classroom style space with monitors, large screen, doors for making sound effects and covered over pit in the floor
Large classroom with a projector screen at one end and a control desk with monitors etc. on it in the centre.

Music & Sound

Music & Sound students will have access to the kinds of software and hardware which will give them the necessary experience to enter industry post-graduation. Recording and production facilities utilise Avid ProTools & Apple Logic and are connected using the Dante audio network. The various different studios, suites and labs include Solid State mixing consoles, PMC & JBL speakers and a whole host of other specialist equipment. Amongst the huge range of facilities are:

Performing Arts

The performance studios and theatres come equipped with industry standard lighting and sound equipment, offering versatile spaces to put on a range of productions, with some having additional features such as sprung floors. All of this provides the perfect environment for theatre, dance and performing arts students to create formidable performance work. Facilities include:

Impact

The home for Leeds School of Arts will provide a new city landmark, right on the edge of the Civic Quarter and just 10 minutes’ walk from the main cultural and retail attractions of the city centre. The scale and stature of the building also ensures it complements the cityscape and acts a gateway to the planned Leeds Innovation District, which will provide a catalyst for the productive, sustainable and inclusive economic development for the city.
