Architecture

The BA (Hons) Architecture course offers a comprehensive grounding in architecture and offers the first step towards the process of professional qualification as an Architect. It provides full exemption from the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Part 1 examinations.

The course benefits from superb facilities, providing a collaborative studio-based environment where students learn to test and critique ideas. Cross-working is key to what we do, with opportunities to work across year groups, within specialist design studios or collaboratively with the other disciplines of Architecture within the School. Many of our students also engage with ‘live projects’, where specialist links made with local and national communities allows students to engage with real projects and real clients. By putting the community first they are able to gain first-hand experience of architecture in practice and how as a profession we can make positive and collective change.

The studio environment is the fulcrum by which we integrate history, theory and technology and where joined-up thinking is key. With a broad range of research-led studio options students are supported in developing individual skills and interests, whether political, social, theoretical, technical or environmental. Experimentation and risk taking are encouraged in all studios, with conventions challenged in order to provoke change at a variety of scales. By rejecting a one-size-fits-all approach our students demonstrate the ability to address problems and posit innovative solutions, making them highly sought by employers.
