Many of our students have children or other dependents to care for whilst they are at university. Others may become parents or have additional responsibilities during their time at Leeds Beckett. The information on this page is intended to provide key points to help navigate university life with children.

Children on campus

Lots of the routes around campus are accessible for parents with buggies and prams (or those with disabilities) and are signposted. The university & campus map can help you find buildings. You may also wish to use Access Able to view our campus buildings in more detail.

Baby changing facilities are available in the following locations:

Headingley campus:

•Accessible toilet in Campus Central (G07)

•Accessible toilet adjacent to Security at James Graham Main Reception (JGG33C)

Carnegie Pavilion:

•Upper Ground Floor Accessible Toilet

•1st Floor Hawke Room Accessible Toilet

•2nd Floor Accessible Toilet

City campus:

•Accessible toilet next to the refectory in the Rose Bowl

•Accessible toilets, Ground Floor (behind the Gaia café) in Calverley building

•The Hive

Both out campuses are entirely breastfeeding friendly and there are no restrictions on bottle or breastfeeding at the university. There are a number of more private rooms across our university which may be available where students can feed their babies. Students can ask in the Student Services Centres and their schools if there are any building specific rooms that could be used. Students in Headingley campus can use the low sensory room in Priestley Building to feed or express. To access this room please speak to staff on the desk in the Student Services Centre on Priestley ground floor.

The Hive have highchairs available for use at both sites and changing facilities at City Campus. The Hive offer a free children’s meal with an adult’s meal at both sites and have colouring books and crayons children can use while in the venue.

Leeds Beckett students can get a free child’s meal when any adult is purchasing a full meal in the Rosebowl food court and Headingley food court.

Please note that this offer is only available for children aged 12 or under. Highchairs are available in both food courts.

Childcare

Our university does not have an on-site nursery, we recommend looking at Leeds City Council’s page for more information on places in the city.

If you are looking for childminders or other forms of childcare such a private nursery or a nanny, Childcare.co.uk is a networking platform for parents and childcare providers, it shows reviews and allows searches in distance from a postcode, the results can then be filtered by childcare type.

You can use the Childcare Calculator on the Gov.uk page to aid you in working out if you are eligible for any government support towards your childcare costs.
