This page provides information for staff about the ways in which the Library can support your students.

The Library Academic Support Team can help your students develop their academic skills. Academic Librarians and Academic Skills Tutors will work with you to tailor the teaching to the needs of your course and link it to the learning outcomes of your module or assignment. The Developing Your Students page has full details of all the in-curriculum sessions offered, which include:

  • Literature searching / using information sources
  • Referencing skills (for Harvard, APA or OSCOLA)
  • Essay writing
  • Critical thinking/working
  • Studying independently
  • Preparing for your dissertation or major independent project
  • SPSS software training

Embedding these teaching sessions in your curriculum allows the students to contextualise academic skills within their course content, helping them to apply what they have learnt to discussions and assignments.

To request an in-curriculum session for your students, please complete our online request form (for sessions up to 31 July 2024).

The Library provides additional facilities and support for any of your students who are registered with Disability Advice - including a dedicated Learning Support Officer.

The Library offers a postal loan service for distance learners living in the UK or mainland Europe where Library items can be posted out. Students need to sign up for the service and get more information from the Library FAQ: How do I sign up for Distance Learner Postal Loans?

Speak to your Academic Librarian Team about the support we can provide for distance learners during the course planning process.

Distance learners are encouraged to contact their Academic Librarian Team about any help or support they need.
