Studying Law at Leeds Beckett

My motivations for studying law are my passion for justice and fairness, the desire to advocate for others and my general interest in the legal system. My goal is to make a positive change in society, whether this be through public service, human rights, or social justice. The intellectual challenge of legal studies allows for a dynamic career in various fields (such as criminal law, family law, etc.), and so I'm excited to see where my studies take me.

How will the Bright Futures Scholarship help you and your studies?

With the Bright Futures Scholarship, I plan to look into internships and placements at law firms or non-profit organisations to help enhance my studies. I feel that getting to experience the life of a lawyer first-hand would be a really good indicator in helping me choose what path I want to go down. I will also invest in a legal research project alongside my studies, which could potentially lead to a paper or presentation at a conference, helping me build my academic profile.

Aside from my studies, I'm keen to participate in competitions and in mock trials to enhance my advocacy and communications skills to provide me practical experience. I am also looking to support and participate in community legal clinics to allow me to provide pro bono legal assistance. Where possible, I would also feel it beneficial to attend legal networking events which would hopefully help me connect with professionals in the field and explore potential career paths.
