Ten alumni from Leeds Beckett University at their reunion

The Headingley mount alumni reunion

Ten former male students who studied at Leeds Beckett University from 1967 to 1970 came back to Headingley campus as part of a reunion weekend to celebrate their 56th anniversary. They were all part of what was formerly City of Leeds and Carnegie School of Physical Education and lived at Cavendish Hall during this period.

Pete Mackreth, the Dean of the Carnegie School of Sport, hosted the reunion and lunch, showed them around the campus and facilities. The boys got the chance to spend time on the campus that they all fondly reminisce about.

All our achievements in our professional and personal lives have been shaped by our time at Leeds. It was a wonderful, formative experience where we worked hard and played hard. We were delighted to reconnect with our alma mater, to see the world-class facilities and to hear about ambitious future plans. It really made us appreciate just how much our days in Leeds changed our lives and helped change the lives of others.

Bob Gibbs, alumni Emeritus Professor of Enterprise and Innovation at the University of Nottingham

Physical Education 30-year reunion

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon in March, the BEd (Hons) Physical Education class of 1994 visited our Headingley Campus for their 30-year reunion.

The reunion was organised by Dave Hanson, who managed to bring together 23 of his classmates together after 30 years, some of them from overseas. The group toured Beckett Park campus and the recently built, state-of-the-art Carnegie School of Sport building and facilities. Dean Peter Mackreth hosted the tour of the building, which was followed by lunch.

They shared many laughs and memories about their unforgettable time on campus.

We are grateful to the Alumni Team for their support and for making us feel so welcome. We would also like to thank Peter Mackreth for sharing his insights on the Carnegie School of Sport with us.

The Bronte Girls

Following a chance meeting with Peter Mackreth, Dean of Carnegie School of Sport, at a Kevin Sinfield fundraising event for Motor Neurone Disease earlier this year, The Bronte Girls returned to campus last month. The Bronte Girls studied between 1968 and 1971 and visited their old college in memory of Jenny Salmon (nee Ogden) who died from MND in 2002 and Pauline Ewart (nee Hutchison) who died in 2022.

The Bronte Girls were treated to lunch and tours of the new Carnegie School of Sport building and Bronte Hall, where they were able to roll back the years and stroll through corridors to find their old rooms.

We were so impressed with everything we saw and are extremely grateful to Peter and the alumni team for escorting us throughout and allowing us to reminisce and savour the past, to marvel at the present, and to look forward to a very exciting future for the university in the years to come.
