Studying Architectural Technology
I studied construction for my GCSES and carried it on into my A-levels because I found I enjoyed the subject so much. So far on my course, I have architectural technology to be extremely similar to the coursework I did in my A-levels, so I feel that I have a really good handle on my course so early on.
I'm also really interested in sustainability in the built environment, and I feel that my course gives me a lot of opportunities to explore new ideas and techniques related to these kinds of issues.
It's also important to note construction is very male dominated, so having more women in the industry encourages to challenge stereotypes and creates more role models for young girls and women to explore career opportunities.
I hope to develop further as a person by having a deeper sense of independence and responsibility whilst at Leeds Beckett. I would also like to grow my leadership skills and my confidence which, I know will be possible as my course is very based on public speaking and being able to lead a team affectively.
How will the Andrew Platten Scholarship help support you during your time at Leeds Beckett?
I plan to use the money from the Andrew Platten Scholarship for PPE for site visits, in addition to supporting travel to and from work experience placements and job fairs. I'm fortunate enough to have made some industry contacts back at home that will hopefully help me to secure work placements to support my studies. The funds from the scholarship will also be used to provide myself with textbooks and further materials to keep me up to date with the developments in the construction industry.
