Studying Real Estate and Property Management

I have had a longer than usual journey getting to university, but through the life experience I have gained I realised what it is I wanted in future career. I decided that surveying was the direction I wanted to go into but then I had to decide which part of surveying I wanted to specialise in and study, as it can be quite broad. I liked the idea of property and asset management, and I have always been fascinated with why things, especially property, are valued the way they are, and my course puts a lot of emphasis on valuation.

I hope that through my time at Leeds Beckett, and the financial and mentoring support from Landsec, will give me exposure to different perspectives and life experiences. Meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures will help to enrich my worldview, whilst giving me a sense of community and belonging with the chance to make lifelong friends.

How will the Landsec Scholarship help?

The support from Landsec is going to be lifechanging. I hope to be able to participate in a variety of networking opportunities I otherwise wouldn't have been able to access. With the funds from the scholarship, I'll be able to attend careers fairs, conferences and site visits relevant to my modules. The built environment sector is purported to be a close, tight-knit community, so the relationships I forge at university may prove to be helpful later in my career. This may help me get into internships and work experience opportunities that would boost my resume.
