Studying Law

Coming from a Bangladeshi background, I know people in my family who were denied permission to get an education due to cultural beliefs concerning gender.

This lead me to question: is it really okay to deny the right to education just because of your gender? Specifically, for being a girl? In Islam women are encouraged to pursue higher education, and through my faith and my family, I am inspired to become a great woman.  

Every woman is more than capable of achieving great things, and I aspire to have a career that gives back to society and help girls and boys have both the right and the access to education.

I have a real interest in humanitarian and international law and I believe that we should help those who experience hardship: everybody should have the right to a proper education and a right to accessible legal advice.

I do not believe that people should be discriminated against for their gender, race and socioeconomic status, and I will make it my mission to encourage my friends and family to achieve great careers and to dream big.

How will The Halifax Law Society Scholarship help?

The Halifax Law Society Scholarship will help me work towards my career goals and to focus on helping those in need. Being the eldest of three siblings and being responsible for supporting my parents, this scholarship will help me to not only support my studies but also my family.

I will use this Halifax Law Society Scholarship to help aid my studies so I can pursue a career that makes a difference not only for myself but for my community.
