Your waste won’t go to waste at our Beckett Kitchen, we ensure that 99% is diverted from landfill by working closely with our specialist recycling partners. This helps to reduce carbon and methane emissions which contribute to global warming.
Food waste is converted into nutrient-rich biofertiliser, called ReGrow, and renewable energy through anaerobic digestion by ReFood. This efficient closed-loop process provides farmers with a sustainable alternative to non-renewable fossil fuel based fertiliser. ReGrow is excellent for soil health and fertility, which in turn is great for crops – creating more food. And when there is food, there will almost always be food waste, and so the process starts again.
Too Good to Go provides a channel for surplus food from stores and restaurants to go to good use. By working with Too Good To Go Beckett Food will reduce food waste by finding people willing to pay a reduced rate for food that would otherwise go to waste. Our "Magic Bags" contain triple the value sold - so for a bag priced at £3.00, you'll get £9.00 worth of food from our Cafés and Beckett Kitchen.
To get your bag download the free Too Good To Go app from your App Store, set your location and look out for our uploads – generally they will be available to collect after 2pm Monday to Friday. Just reserve a bag and then collect it from either;

Did you know we have a colony of bees happily buzzing around Headingley Campus?
To help us get it from hive to jar, we call in the help of father/daughter bee-keeping team Benefers’ Bees.
They ensure the each jar contains fresh, raw & unfiltered honey, which naturally contains natural vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and other essential nutrients. Not all honey is created equally and our contains the tastes of all the flora cared for on campus from which the bees forage.
You can pick up a jar at our outlets or on colder days we serve it with tea and lemon as a natural immunity booster!
We support Fairtrade by serving a range of Fairtrade products, including our tea and coffee. Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. With Fairtrade you have the power to change the world every day. With simple shopping choices you can get farmers a better deal. And that means they can make their own decisions, control their future and lead the dignified life everyone deserves.
We are passionate about sourcing our food and drink responsibly and ethically. We are proud to source as many of our ingredients as we can locally and in a sustainable way. This includes seasonal sourcing of ingredients - look out for limited time products like our popular Yorkshire Rhubarb layer cakes in summer! We are committed to local sourcing to reduce the carbon footprint of our meals and to ensure we supply the freshest produce packed full of taste.
This includes using MSC certified fish, Fairtrade products and locally sourced food.
