On Thursday 17th June, at 6pm, final year BA (Hons) Music Performance and Production students are putting on an online charity music festival as their final assignment for their Music Performance module.

The Music Performance module usually involves students performing in live spaces across Leeds, which is not possible this year. Instead, the students got placed into festival role groups (Project Management, Creative, Marketing, Operations, and Programming) and were tasked to create their own online event that went above and beyond the typical Facebook live stream.

Em Hayward, a student on the BA (Hons) Music Performance and Production course said, “Being involved in organising and delivering S.A.V.E Fest has been extremely wholesome in the fact that it’s a celebration and recognition of the wide range of talent seen within our course. In addition, it’s given us a chance to be creative and proactive musically and professionally- developing skills that’ll be transferable in our futures. I’ve loved being involved and am super excited to see what Thursday entails.”

The event will be streamed across two stages on both YouTube and Twitch. S.A.V.E Fest is proud to host an eclectic mix of acts. So whether you’re into acoustic-folk, hip-hop, or industrial synth pop, we guarantee that one of our two stages will have something for you.

In recognition of the hardships that artists and venues have faced during the pandemic, all donations will be given to the Save our Venues charity, which supports organisations that are unable to host live music under current government restrictions.

While we all look forward to experiencing live music again, this festival has provided the students with an opportunity to perform their music to potentially a worldwide audience and produce an event that is a gratifying way to end their degree course.

Ethan Aldwinkle, also a student on the course said, “Putting together S.A.V.E Festival has been a great experience! While we would've loved to play together in person, having this opportunity has taught us a lot about event management. It has been exciting to explore interesting ways to create performances from home. Although it has been difficult this past year and a half, seeing how our course has come together to create this event is an excellent way to end the degree!”

The students have also created a Facebook event page for more information about the event and the acts performing. So, be sure to tune in on the 17th of June to enjoy a spectacular music event.
