“The opportunity to volunteer for Sky Bet’s Annual Charity Ball came through our final year core module. We were warmly welcomed by the Sky Bet internal events team, who invited us to their HQ in Leeds city centre a week before the event. We were given a tour of their office spaces and introduced to key people in the business - wow, what a place!

The following week we joined the team at The Royal Armouries, which is the largest dedicated conference, events and exhibition space in Leeds where the event was being held. It was so interesting to be part of the team working on the event space and seeing it change from a blank canvas to a fully immersive ball room experience. During the event set up we met Ed Chamberlin and Oli Bell, best known for their commentary on ITV Racing and Football.

On the evening of the event we supported the fundraising activities, including  wearing mascot costumes - something none of us will ever forget doing!”

Michelle Lanham, Year Leader, BA (Hons) Events Management added: ‘Volunteering helps our students’ network and form different perspectives on the power of events. We are privileged to have such professional students and wonderful partners, such as Sky Bet.’

Lucy Brown, internal communications manager at Sky Bet had this to say about our students: ‘Please pass on my thanks to your students who got stuck into absolutely everything we asked, they certainly made an impression. Each of them should be incredibly proud of what they achieved, we couldn't have done it without them.’
