The Power of Events launches new industry app

On the 10th October we were delighted to host the Power of Events as part of their UK tour to launch their Event Industry Insights App. The Power of Events is a not-for-profit company set up to showcase the UK events industry. Partnering with universities across the UK, it helps design and deliver research and data to demonstrate the social, economic and cultural impact of events.

On the day over 180 students and staff from UKCEM, and external guests, joined us to find out more about the new app which enables two-way engagement with UK event professionals and provides access to industry research projects. Our students were also given insight into the wide range of careers available within the industry.

Students get an insight into different event venues in Harrogate

Level 5 BA (Hons) Events Management students from our Corporate Events & Hospitality module enjoyed a familiarisation/site visit to Harrogate Convention Centre and Double Tree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel & Spa on the 12th October.

Rhys Siddons, Event Planning & Delivery Manager from Harrogate Convention Centre, provided an extensive behind the scenes tour and Q&A into all aspects of conferences, exhibitions, corporate events and venues.  The  visit covered operations and also the role events and venues have within the Harrogate economy, providing a fantastic opportunity for students to see what this sector of the events industry has to offer.

We then moved on to the Double Tree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel & Spa where Sarah Dowson, Food & Beverage (F&B) Manager, and Laura Hitchen, Director of Sales and Marketing gave our students a tour of their event facilities. Sarah and Laura also delivered a presentation providing an insight into events, hospitality and F&B at the hotel, and their own careers.

Glenn Bowdin, Principal Lecturer in Events Management said, “Site visits and industry guest speakers are aspects of our approach to events management higher education. We use the industry as an extension of our classroom, so that students draw on theory, practice and the latest industry insights, and develop their professional networks. Thank you to both venues and their management teams for hosting our students.”
