From city parks and green streets to rural spaces, waterfronts, and urban places, landscape architecture shapes the way we experience and interact with the world outside. If you want a course where creativity meets purpose, this is it.
On this Landscape Architecture & Design degree, you'll be based in creative city-centre studios and dedicated landscape facilities. This is where your ideas become places that matter. You'll design for real people, real environments, and real challenges. The climate crisis. Biodiversity. Urban life. Wellbeing. Our changing countryside.
As part of this landscape architecture course, you'll:
- Explore how nature, people, and cities connect
- Develop creative, technical, and digital design skills by sketching, modelling, planting, and testing your ideas
- Dive into modules covering the theory, history, and design principles that underpin landscape architecture
- Design with sustainability, ecology, and climate-positive thinking at the core
- Tackle social and environmental challenges through studio projects and live briefs
- Build your confidence and refine your own design identity
Design the future
Landscape architecture looks beyond the visual. It's also about how spaces function. You'll explore how outdoor environments can improve lives, support nature, and respond to a changing planet. On this course, you'll learn to use design as a tool for positive impact.
Get ready to make an impact
By the time you graduate, you'll know the change your ideas can create, and where they could take you next. This course is accredited by the Landscape Institute, giving you a recognised route into the profession and a strong foundation for a career as a landscape architect.
Bring the outdoors to life
On this landscape architecture course, you'll dig into what makes places come alive. You'll create experiences, not just designs, and discover how smart ideas can tackle social, climate, and environmental challenges head on.
Learn by doing
You'll spend your time in our dynamic studios. Making. Testing. Refining. Through a combination of drawing, model-making, and digital tools, you'll bring ideas to life. You'll also use our dedicated Landscape Resource Centre to gain hands-on experience with plants, habitats, and ecological design - something many landscape design courses don't offer.
Collaborate like a professional
At Leeds School of Architecture, collaboration with your peers is key. You'll work alongside future architects, interior designers, and urban thinkers, just like professionals do in practice. Guest speakers, site visits, live projects, and exhibitions will provide insight into the industry and the chance to showcase your work.

John MacCleary
John has practiced as a landscape architect for most of his professional life and is a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute. He is Course Director for landscape architecture on the undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Leeds Beckett.
This is the most exciting time to train as a landscape architect; there's a huge demand for employing our skills. With the increased awareness of how important our natural environment is for our health, our economy, and our survival, landscape architects can do something meaningful to help and leave our world in a better place."
My time studying Landscape Architecture at Leeds Beckett pushed me to think differently and explore opportunities that question the status quo. Each studio project enabled me to explore, grow, and develop critical themes that are still a part of my practice today. I came away grounded in the knowledge that I had the design skills and creativity to forge my own path and a portfolio of work that would enable me to undertake the breadth of projects that I have been fortunate to work on throughout my career.”
Our degree allowed us the creative freedom to build our own garden design projects. The tutors were really encouraging and gave us the knowledge to begin our careers and help grow our business. We're now able to reconnect people with their natural surroundings through our garden designs.
