1. Study in one of the UK’s largest legal hubs

Leeds benefits from its central location and is accessible by car, train, and plane, meaning you can visit friends and family in no time. But that’s just one advantage to our vibrant northern city. As a student at Leeds Law School, you will be part of a thriving student community in one of the UK’s largest legal hubs.

Not only does this mean that there are many opportunities to take advantage of on your doorstep to catapult you into a career in law, you’ll also be surrounded by a community of like-minded people, making your time in Leeds unforgettable.

2. Access quality resources including free textbooks

As a Leeds Law School student, you’ll save money on textbooks with free access to Law Trove, the complete Law catalogue from Oxford University Press.

Home to state-of-the-art facilities, you’ll study in an environment that is modern, collaborative, and forward thinking. You’ll also have opportunities to put learning into practice in our Courtroom. To see what we mean, explore our facilities on our virtual campus tour

Law student, Sophie Turner said: “The city campus is so modern, there’s a real vibe here. There are great facilities, like a mooting room, and the classrooms are spacious. The library is amazing, set over four floors with lots of social spaces.”

3. Benefit from work experience and extra-curricular activities

It’s not all about books and lectures. Some of our students have taken the opportunity to do work placements to gain hands-on experience and expand their knowledge of the legal profession. Don’t just take our word for it – explore what our current and past students have to say about their work experience and career development opportunities.

As well as applying your knowledge to a real-life work environment, you can also choose to take part in extra-curricular activities. You can get involved in The Student Law Society. You can have fun while making your CV stand out – who wouldn’t want that?

4. Use your skills to give back to the local community

We take pride in our partnerships and commitment to local communities here at Leeds Beckett. One example is our partnership with Support Through Court, a charity that supports people going through the court system. Based at the university, students can build on their experience while helping people in their area, which can include services like completing court forms and planning for and attending court hearings.

As well as supporting a charity, you can benefit from the university’s Law Clinic, a place for members of the public to receive free legal advice. With supervision from a practising legal professional, students can give back to their community using their skillset to offer advice in areas such as family and employment law.

Law student, Rebecca Bull said: “The Law Clinic module is an experience I would highly recommend and ideal for anyone seeking careers in the legal sector or those wishing to develop skills ready for professional roles.”

5. Receive careers guidance from your professional mentor

Throughout your time at Leeds Beckett University, you won’t be short on support. Leeds Law School has a team of dedicated staff, always on hand to guide you. On top of that, you will get the opportunity to pair up with a professional mentor who can provide valuable insights into the industry.

Our high-profile Law in Practice guest lectures also provide inspiration and insight. Previous speakers include Labour Party Leader, Sir Keir Starmer QC MP, and human rights campaigner Baroness Shami Chakrabarti CBE PC.

Law student, Coreen Motsie said: “My favourite thing about studying has been the support I have received throughout my degree. The culture at Leeds Beckett is very genuine, supportive and friendly, and I have always felt that I can contact any staff member within the university, whether it’s a tutor, the library team or someone from student finance.”
