Bursaries are types of financial aid that you don't have to repay. In this page you'll find information about the different grants and scholarships we offer, eligibility criteria and how to apply.

Different types of bursary include the NHS Bursary for students on NHS funded courses and the Social Work Bursary for students studying for a Social Work degree. There are also bursaries available for some postgraduate teacher training courses, more information is available via Get into Teaching.

We also offer a range of scholarships including Sports Scholarships.

Please note that in order to apply for bursaries or scholarships, you will need to be a fully enrolled student. 

Bursaries

Information regarding bursaries for the 2026/27 academic year will be available in the summer.

The bursary is intended to assist students under the age of 25 who are leaving care to attend university or who have been living independently since experiencing care. The bursary will also support those undergraduate students estranged from their families. For students studying in 2025/26, the amount payable is £2000 per year, which will each be paid in two instalments of £1000 by BACS. This bursary is intended to support full-time undergraduate students who are undertaking a work placement. The support is available to students with a household income of less than £42,875, as verified by the student loans company.

 Awards from the fund do not have to be returned to our university. To apply please complete the online application form.

Please note that you can only apply for this bursary once per academic year. 

Applications for this bursary open on Monday 22nd September 2025 and remain open for the whole academic year.

The bursary is intended to assist full-time undergraduate students who have responsibility as primary carer for a dependant adult that will continue whilst they are studying.

For students studying with us in 2025/26, the amount payable will be assessed based on individual circumstances, to a maximum award of £2000 per year, paid in two instalments of £1000. Assessment of eligibility will be revisited in each year of your course that you wish to be considered for the bursary.

All bursary applications will take place via our ‘MyHub’ online portal. Our university will identify students that meet the key eligibility criteria for any specific scholarship or bursary shortly before the application process opens and contact those students inviting them to complete an online application.

If you believe you meet the criteria for a specific bursary, but have not heard from us, please contact bursaryandscholarship@leedsbeckett.ac.uk and we will be happy to look into your eligibility.

Unfortunately not, if you have been contacted inviting you to apply for a specific bursary, then it is your responsibility to complete the application before the deadline.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to appeal, due to the quick turnaround of our application processes. However, if you are unsuccessful there are other grants and funds that our university offers to support you during your time at Leeds Beckett.

Yes, you can apply for as many bursaries that you are eligible for. If you are unsuccessful there are other funds and additional support available for you.
