Studying Events Management
I've always been excited by events, from wedding planning to raising money for charity. During my teenage years, my passion for planning events grew, often being nominated to plan friends' surprise birthdays or baby showers.
Since the start of the year, I've done a lot of charity work which included lots of challenge and community fundraising events. During this time, we have managed to raise over £18,000! I figured that if I enjoyed planning events, and was also successful in running them, then why not make a career out of it?
With events management, practical experience is needed to strengthen knowledge about the subject. With events, no matter how much you read or research about it, the feeling of attending is intangible, meaning you have to experience it to experience it.
How will the Bright Futures Scholarship help your studies at Leeds Beckett?
I plan to use the Bright Futures Scholarship to volunteer at events and look for opportunities in different industries that would help to broaden and deepen my understanding of what it takes to be an events professional.
During my time at Leeds Beckett University, I want to step out of the safety net I have created and put myself in situations I don't quite feel comfortable in. A student in my class said, "you don't grow in your comfort zone", and he is right, you don't. I want to get to know the new me. I know what I want, and I have my heart set on it. The scholarship will allow me to complete my studying without the extra pressure of financial gain.
