Glenn is representing the AEME (Association for Events Management Education), where he serves on the Executive Committee as Treasurer, with the role ensuring a strategic route for dialogue between events education and industry. UKEVENTS seeks to ‘support sustainable growth for the UK’s £70 billion UK events industry,’ delivering this through advocacy, networking, collaboration and providing a collective voice, and harnessing the knowledge and skills of its partners and their members.

On his appointment Glenn said, “I’m very pleased to be appointed to UKEVENTS as one of the Vice Chairs and Treasurer. UKEVENTS is an organisation that has been increasingly active in supporting all sectors of the events industry over recent years. I will be championing events education and research, and supporting the Executive Committee and partners in taking the industry forward.

Education plays a major role in supporting the sustainable growth of the events industry, with further and higher education providing some of the talent required to address immediate and future workforce needs, and research.”

Commenting on the value of events education and research, Glenn said, “Education provides a route into the events industry and a resource, with students working during their courses to increase their experience and employability within the industry for when they graduate. Our students and graduates go on to pursue successful careers in the events industry, and our courses also provide professional development opportunities for those already working in the industry or wishing to change careers. The research undertaken within universities helps to shape our understanding of events and issues within society. It provides insight which helps us bring in new perspectives, so together we can help solve the challenges that the industry faces.

By collaborating through industry bodies such as UKEVENTS, it raises the profile of our work and ensures industry perspectives and needs are reflected in our courses. It also ensures that the industry is aware of the graduate talent available, increases the impact of our research, and helps support industry development and growth. With so much positive activity going on as the industry rebuilds following the pandemic disruption, it is a great time to be involved.”

*UKEVENTS, formerly known as BVEP (Business Visits and Events Partnership), is the umbrella organisation for member organisations involved in the UK events industry.
