The Leeds Beckett website is designed to enable you to manage your own privacy preferences. By clicking on 'Cookies' below you can manage what data the site collects about your browsing. Animations & Interaction

The Leeds Beckett University website occasionally uses animations to page elements and animated gifs to add impact to pages. If you wish to stop them from playing for accessibility purposes or for personal preference then please see the guidance below. Please note that browsers sometimes change how they operate, so please refer to your browser help files to find their latest information.
How do I turn off animations?

Chrome

Chrome users will need to use browser extensions. Animation Policy from Google will help you set your own preferences.

Microsoft Edge

There is currently no way to disable animations within Microsoft Edge. Users of Edge (Chromium) browser can install the Chrome extensions above and use them.

Internet Explorer

To stop animations on a single page you can just press the 'Esc' key. This will stop the animation on that page. If you wish to restart the animations you need to refresh the page. To permanently disable the playing of animated GIF images, open Internet Options > Advanced tab. Under the Multimedia section, uncheck the Play animations in webpage check-box, click Apply and Exit and then restart your computer.

Firefox

Type about:config in Firefox address bar and hit Enter to open Settings. Search for the image.animation_mode flag and change its value from Normal to None. Once you restart Firefox this will disable animations.

If you are a current student and are considering suspending your studies, we recommend you discuss this with Student Advice, your Academic Adviser or your Course Director in the first instance.

Your Adviser will talk through your options and the process of suspending your studies. They may also refer you to specialist teams for further advice and guidance.

Get advice

We understand that throughout your course you may need to take a break from your studies for a number of personal reasons. A suspension of study usually lasts for one academic year and must be approved by your Course Director. Before you decide to suspend your studies, you should be aware that there can be implications to you at the time of suspension, and in the future.

Your Course Team will be able to advise you on this option. Alternatively, you can request an appointment with one of our Student Life Advisers who can help you navigate the next steps by emailing studentadvice@leedsbeckett.ac.uk.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

If you decide to suspend your studies, there may be implications to withdrawing temporarily. These include (amongst others):

being liable for tuition fees and other fees relating to accommodation, etc.
your agreement with a sponsor (and in some cases the requirement to pay back or return funds to a sponsor)
your entitlement to funding through bodies such as the Student Loans Company
your student visa

If you still wish to suspend your studies, you are required to complete a ‘Request for suspension of studies’ form which is available from your Course Administrator or Course Director. You will need to discuss the content of this form and your request with them, and it is subject to their approval. They may also refer you to another university service for further help and advice.

If you'd like some help understanding your options, please email studentadvice@leedsbeckett.ac.uk with details of your circumstances. A Student Life Adviser will then be in touch to discuss your options, considerations before you suspend, support available, and help guide you through the process.

Finances when changing study

If you have not yet started at our university and wish to discuss deferring, you will need to contact the Admissions team.
