Animations & Interaction

The Leeds Beckett University website occasionally uses animations to page elements and animated gifs to add impact to pages. If you wish to stop them from playing for accessibility purposes or for personal preference then please see the guidance below. Please note that browsers sometimes change how they operate, so please refer to your browser help files to find their latest information.
How do I turn off animations?

Chrome

Chrome users will need to use browser extensions. Animation Policy from Google will help you set your own preferences.

Microsoft Edge

There is currently no way to disable animations within Microsoft Edge. Users of Edge (Chromium) browser can install the Chrome extensions above and use them.

Internet Explorer

To stop animations on a single page you can just press the 'Esc' key. This will stop the animation on that page. If you wish to restart the animations you need to refresh the page. To permanently disable the playing of animated GIF images, open Internet Options > Advanced tab. Under the Multimedia section, uncheck the Play animations in webpage check-box, click Apply and Exit and then restart your computer.

Firefox

Type about:config in Firefox address bar and hit Enter to open Settings. Search for the image.animation_mode flag and change its value from Normal to None. Once you restart Firefox this will disable animations.

If you are considering withdrawing from your studies, we want to help. While the reasons vary, many students feel like this throughout their studies. Perhaps the course is proving harder than you imagined, perhaps you have things going on in your personal life that are impacting your studies, or perhaps you haven't settled into university life as you would have hoped, these are all perfectly normal reasons. There is a huge range of support available via your Student Support Network, we want to ensure you have all of the information required to make an informed decision prior to finalising a withdrawal.

We recognise for some students that asking for help can be difficult for a range of different reasons. However, asking for help could be the best decision you ever make, and even enable you to continue your journey with Leeds Beckett University if this is your preference.

In the first instance, we strongly encourage students to talk with their course team.

Could a Suspension of Studies be a better option for you?

If you feel that your circumstances may improve in time, you may wish to consider applying for a ‘Suspension of Studies’ or switching your method of study, rather than a permanent withdrawal. For more information visit the suspension of studies webpage.

Withdrawing

If you have already considered suspending your studies or changing your course and think withdrawing might be the best option, we encourage you to speak to your course administrator.

They will discuss your circumstances with you and available support. If after that you still feel like withdrawing is the right decision to make, you can submit an intent to withdraw form.

Withdrawing from your studies can have implications for you at the time of withdrawal and in the future.

This includes the following (amongst others):

You may still be liable for tuition fees and other fees relating to accommodation, etc.
Your agreement with a sponsor (and in some cases the requirement to pay back or return funds to a sponsor)
Your entitlement to funding through bodies such as the Student Loans Company
Your visa status

Speaking to your course administrator will ensure you are provided with the details of a range of support teams who can guide you through this process and help you understand any implications that could impact you now and for any future study.

If you have explored the support available and still wish to withdraw, then you must submit the withdrawal form on MyHub. Please note, you must continue to engage with your course team until they have confirmed your withdrawal is complete.

You can find your course administrator's contact details in your Course Handbook. If you have any problems locating these, please contact Student Advice and we can help you.

If you have not yet started at our university and no longer wish to enrol, you will need to contact the Admissions team.

Depending on when you withdraw you may be liable to pay fees. There may also be implications for your Maintenance Loan and living arrangements. We would recommend you speak with our Student Money team to discuss this.

No, any student wishing to proceed with a formal withdrawal must have completed the withdrawal form on MyHub. It is important to stay in touch with your course team after submitting the form to ensure they have all the information required to process your request.

This depends on the conditions of entry to your new institution. You may be asked to complete your current year of study at Leeds Beckett first so you should check with the new institution. Once you have this confirmed, we recommend you speak to your course administrator to seek advice on whether to withdraw or continue your studies until the end of the year.

If you have studied for at least one year and passed before withdrawing you may be eligible for a contained award. Please speak to your course administrator who will be able to clarify this for you.

Yes, your withdrawal could affect your funding and visa. Please speak to our Student Immigration Advice and Compliance team before processing your withdrawal.

If you have already withdrawn you will need to re-apply through UCAS or direct application to re-join our university. You can speak to the Admissions team for further guidance.
