Studying Sports Coaching

“I am passionate about sport, in particular rugby and athletics, and I want to help others to be the best they can be and achieve their goals. My goals are to try and play rugby at as high a level as I can just like the Poly Ollies, and also to help children to play sport, particularly those who are less fortunate than others.

"I chose to study at Leeds Beckett because I was really impressed by the new sports facility on the open day, and also by the enthusiasm for the subject of all of the staff that I met. It was also a big draw to be able to apply to a university with such a strong rugby set up and teams who were securing great results.

"I hope to be able to play rugby professionally or semi-professionally, as well as looking to have a career in coaching in rugby. I also really enjoy my athletics and specialise in the 200m.

“The scholarship will help me with the financial pressures of university life, and enable me to focus on my studies as it has been difficult to secure a part time job due to the effects of Covid-19. In particular I am looking forward to being able to focus on and take part fully in coaching sessions and sports events through the rest of my time at Leeds Beckett.

“Receiving the Poly Ollies Scholarship means so much to me. It means a lot to me to receive this scholarship from Leeds Beckett who take pride in the Poly Ollies achievement of winning that first important game against the University of Leeds, and also to be supported by a group of people like the Poly Ollies who recognise the importance of the values and friendship that rugby gave them when they were students.”
