How did you choose your course?

At the time of deciding what course I wanted to do, I was not sure whether I wanted to go into business or sport. I was passionate about both, and the Sport Business Management course was perfect. It allowed me to combine my passions and keep my options open with regards to what industry I moved into upon graduating. I was most interested in the marketing modules. Fortunately, the course was designed in such a way that it allowed me to be flexible and shape my degree to include more of those modules.

What does an average day look like for you?

It is my responsibility to gather all the information and requirements from our clients and ensure they come to fruition, to the highest standard possible.

There is no such thing as an average day really, as we work with multiple clients on multiple projects. From strategy, social media and sponsorship through to promotional marketing, and design and branding, it is all about capturing people’s attention and creating memorable experiences.

“The course had the perfect balance between modules with a more sports and leisure focus, and modules with a business focus, as well as those that combined the two. The course provided me with a really sound understanding of both industries, and the commonalities between the two.”

And what experience did you get outside of the course?

Knowing that placements would be very competitive, I approached Banana Kick during the first year. I was fortunate enough to secure a placement that summer. It was a great experience that provided a real insight into what it is like to work in the industry. I enjoyed it so much that I went back the following January and worked with them on my dissertation before joining full-time in May 2014.

No one day is the same. One day I might be interviewing Premier League players to get footage to bring a sponsorship to life online, and then I could be working on a central campaign to be rolled out across 37 casinos across the UK. Having such a diverse client base, I get the opportunity to work on many different projects.

What would you say is your greatest achievement so far?

It’s really difficult to say what I’d consider my biggest achievement, as I have worked on many enjoyable projects and campaigns, and we move at such a fast pace. However, one project that stands out for me has to be creating the brand-new identity and design style for Mayfair’s newest late-night bar: Berkeley Street Bar. I managed the project from start to finish and took real pride in seeing our creative response on everything from signage to menus and promotional assets in the heart of London.

Embrace every opportunity that comes your way with open arms and give it your all, as you never know what might come from something.
