If you love sport, you'll love Leeds

Leeds is a city that's built on sport. We're a city of Olympians, and World Cup winners. We're a city of storied clubs, and historic stadiums. We're a city where communities have bonded through sport, and where researchers and coaches are transforming it.

Exceptional Atheletes. Inspiring stories

Leeds is home to a thousand stories of sporting success. It's the place where Jonny Brownlee and Laura Weightman trained to become Olympic medal-winners. It's where Beryl Burton became a legendary cyclist. It's where Jack Charlton and Norman Hunter became footballing icons.

We're still playing a part in training sporting legends today. Our coaches have helped Olympic champions such as Alistair Brownlee and Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill to greatness, and our research is still pushing the boundaries of human performance.

We're not a one-sport city

Sport is part of the fabric of Leeds. From the roar of Elland Road football stadium to the history of Headingley cricket ground, you'll never be far from drama and atmosphere.

Leeds boasts many clubs that have earned their place as household names. Once one of English football's great clubs, Leeds United are again thrilling fans in the Premier League. Yorkshire is home to top-class county and international cricket, and Leeds Rhinos and Yorkshire Carnegie are powerhouses in rugby league and union.

But it's also a place that's hosted stages of the Tour de Yorkshire and the World Triathlon Series, the Rugby World Cup, and the first Ryder Cup on European soil.

Transforming lives

Communities, empowered by sport

All over the city, you can see how sport can change lives. Ambitious young people have become trophy-winners. Community clubs and initiatives have improved health, and provided opportunities. Families and neighbours have found common ground over football, cricket or rugby.

When you talk about the power of sport, you only need to look out of your window. As part of your course, you'll be working hand-in-hand with sports clubs, community groups, and other organisations that are looking to ensure that sport can reach everyone, and be enjoyed by all.
