Scholarships and bursaries are types of financial aid that you don't have to repay. In this page you'll find information about the different grants and scholarships we offer, eligibility criteria and how to apply.

Different types of bursary include the NHS Bursary for students on NHS funded courses and the Social Work Bursary for students studying for a Social Work degree. There are also bursaries available for some postgraduate teacher training courses, more information is available via Get into Teaching.

We also offer a range of scholarships including Sports Scholarships.

Please note that in order to apply for bursaries or scholarships, you will need to be a fully enrolled student. 

Scholarships and bursaries

If you believe you are eligible to apply for any of the below scholarships, but have not been contacted, please get in touch with the Bursary and Scholarship team: bursaryandscholarship@leedsbeckett.ac.uk.

The bursary is intended to assist students under the age of 25 who are leaving care to attend university or who have been living independently since experiencing care. The bursary will also support those undergraduate students estranged from their families. For students entering our university for the first time in 2023, the amount payable is £1,000 at Level 4, £1,500 at Level 5 and £1,000 at Level 6, which will each be paid in two instalments by BACS. This bursary is intended to support full-time undergraduate students who are undertaking a work placement. The support is available to students with a household income of less than £42,875, as verified by the student loans company.
Awards from the fund do not have to be returned to our university. To apply please complete the online application form.

Please note that you can only apply for this bursary once per academic year.

The bursary is intended to assist full-time undergraduate students who have responsibility as primary carer for a dependant adult that will continue whilst they are studying.

For students entering our university in 2022, the amount payable will be assessed based on individual circumstances, to a maximum award of £1,500. Assessment of eligibility will be revisited in each year of your course that you wish to be considered for the bursary.

This scholarship was established to commemorate Andrew’s life, celebrating and reflecting Andrew’s commitment to widening access to education, teaching in building services and engineering, and building strong international partnerships.

The Andrew Platten Scholarship is a cash award of £1,500 to one first year student. Applicants will need to be studying built environment or engineering subjects, have an annual household income of £27,500 or less and be the first in their family to attend university. Students who are eligible to apply, according to information on their student record, will be contacted via their student email address and applications will be online through MyHub.

The scholarship was set up by Cognni Computer Software limited. The scholarship is a cash award of £15,000 to one first year student. Applicants will need to be studying BSc Computer Science, have an annual household income of £25,000 or less and have a permanent home address in Yorkshire or the surrounding area. Students who are eligible to apply, according to information on their student record, will be contacted via their student email address and applications will be online through MyHub.

The Paul Wilmott Scholarship was created to celebrate Paul’s life and his outstanding contribution to our university. Paul had a lifelong passion for sound recording, live broadcasting and audio engineering. A consummate professional, his technical and creative ability with sound was second to none.

The Paul Wilmott Scholarship is a cash award of £1,500 to one first year student. Applicants will need to be studying audio engineering or broadcast media technology, have an annual household income of £27,500 or less and be the first in their family to attend university. Students who are eligible to apply, according to information on their student record, will be contacted via their student email address and applications will be online through MyHub. The International Montessori Institute’s Study Scholarship will be open to applications for students applying to study BA (Hons) Primary Education Accelerated Degree (Montessori) . Five scholarships of £3,000 each will be available.

This is a dedicated scholarship fund set up to support Black, Asian, and other people of colour who wish to train to become a registered qualified therapeutic counsellor by taking the MA Integrative Counselling course.

The scheme is open to applicants from the above groups to encourage enrolling on or undertaking the course. A scholarship of £4,750 (50% of the overall course fee) is available, meaning a reduced fee of £4,750 will be paid by the student over 2 years rather than the full £9,500.

The Bright Futures Scholarship is an award supported by alumni and friends of Leeds Beckett University to ensure that the opportunity to experience and benefit from an education at Leeds Beckett University should be open to all, regardless of their background.

The Bright Futures Scholarship is a cash award of £1,500 for first year students paid in three instalments. Applicants will need to have an annual household income of £27,500 or less and be the first in their family to attend university. Students who are eligible to apply, according to information on their student record, will be contacted via their student email address and applications will be online through MyHub. â€‹

Professor Donald Bligh graduated in teacher training from Leeds Beckett in 1958 and personally supports this scholarship. As part of the scholarship the successful scholar is invited to use Professor Bligh as a mentor to take their ideas further and help develop appropriate study methods to do so.

The Professor Bligh Scholarship is a cash award of £1,200 to one first- or second-year student. In addition, Professor Bligh will provide personal mentoring to the successful scholar for a period of 12 months. Applicants will need to have an annual household income of £25,000 or less and be the first in their family to attend university.

The Landsec BSc (Hons) Real Estate and Property Management Scholarship is supported by Landsec Securities Group plc to support and empower the next generation of talent in the real estate and property management sectors. Landsec are the UK's leading property development company, with a diverse portfolio of assets across Europe, in addition to having familiar, iconic developments at home in Leeds.

The scholarship is a one-time cash award of £30,000 for one first year student, paid in instalments over three years. Applicants will need to be studying our BSc (Hons) Real Estate and Property Management course, have a household income of £25,000 or less, and be the first in their family to attend university. Students who are eligible to apply, according to information on their student record, will be contacted via their student email address and applications will be online through MyHub.

Sir Bob Murray CBE is the Chancellor of Leeds Beckett University, and qualified as a chartered certified accountant from our university in 1972. He is a leading businessman, and personally supports this scholarship due to his enduring passion for the transformative power of education. The Sir Bob Murray CBE Scholarships are awarded to support first year students studying accounting or finance related courses, coming from the north of England.

The Sir Bob Murray CBE Scholarship is a cash award of £1,000 to five first year students. Applicants will need to have an annual household income of £25,000 or less and be the first in their family to attend university. Students who are eligible to apply, according to information on their student record, will be contacted via their student email address and applications will be online through MyHub.

The Carnegie Class of 75-77 Scholarship was set up by graduates who studied in the Carnegie School of Physical Education from 1975-77. The idea was to celebrate their time at Carnegie while enabling others to have the same opportunities, emphasising their ongoing connections and friendships as part of ‘the Carnegie family’.

The Carnegie Class of 75-77 Scholarship is a cash award of £1,500 to one first year student. Applicants will need to be studying in the Carnegie School of Sport, have an annual household income of £25,000 or less and be the first in their family to attend university. Students who are eligible to apply, according to information on their student record, will be contacted via their student email address and applications will be online through MyHub.

The Carnegie Class of 78-82 Scholarship was set up by graduates who studied at the Carnegie School of Physical Education from 1978-82. The graduates wanted to set up the scholarship to help current students have the same opportunities they had.

The Carnegie Class of 78-82 Scholarship is a cash award of £1,500 to two first year students. Applicants will need to be studying in the Carnegie School of Sport, have an annual household income of £25,000 or less and be the first in their family to attend university. Students who are eligible to apply, according to information on their student record, will be contacted via their student email address and applications will be online through MyHub.

The Halifax Law Society Scholarship is an award supported by the Halifax Law Society and the Community Foundation for Calderdale. The aim is to support the next generation of legal professionals from West Yorkshire.

The Halifax Law Society Scholarship is a cash award of £1,500 to two first year students. Applicants will need to be studying in the Leeds Law School, have an annual household income of £27,500 or less, be the first in their family to attend university and have a permanent home address in West Yorkshire. Students who are eligible to apply, according to information on their student record, will be contacted via their student email address and applications will be online through MyHub.

Soroptimist International is a global volunteer movement working together to transform the lives of women and girls with nearly 80,000 members in 124 countries.

The Soroptimist International of Leeds Scholarship is a cash award of £9,000 to one first year female student (3,000 per year for 3 years) studying a STEM related course.

Applicants will need to have an annual household income of £25,000 or less and have a permanent home address in the Leeds  City region or Yorkshire. Students who are eligible to apply, according to information on their student record, will be contacted via their student email address and applications will be online through MyHub.

All scholarship and bursary applications will take place via our ‘MyHub’ online portal. Our university will identify students that meet the key eligibility criteria for any specific scholarship or bursary shortly before the application process opens and contact those students inviting them to complete an online application.
