Find the support you need

At Leeds Beckett we have dedicated teams across the university here to support you with a range of issues you may be facing, as well as providing helpful resources and tools if you’re just looking for some tips or you’re not quite ready to speak to someone. Access the information below to find out who to speak to or where to find the information you need.

If you feel you need to speak to someone sooner and are concerned about your health or wellbeing, it is important that you contact your GP or NHS 111 for advice.

If you are having a mental health crisis, you can call a local NHS mental health helpline for 24-hour advice and support: Find a local NHS urgent mental health helpline

During your studies, you will be able to receive support from your lecturers, but each course also has a specialist team ready to assist you with any issues or enquiries you might have.

Speak to your course administrator

Your course administrator is your key contact at university and is here to help. They are here to ensure that you have the smoothest possible student experience whilst studying with us. If you have a question about your course or if you experience any problems, your course administrator is a great first person to ask.

If you're not sure who your course administrator is, you can find their details via your Course Handbook. Your Course Handbook will also provide vital information about submitting assignments, mitigation and a range of other important issues.

Speak to your Wellbeing team

Your Student Wellbeing team can offer advice and support on lots of issues, as well as signposting other helpful support services and resources.

If you'd like to speak to someone you'll need to register with the Wellbeing team and then book your initial consultation with one of our experienced practitioners. We have appointments available at both campuses [from 21 September we will be offering a mix of telephone and face-to-face appointments].

At your initial consultation you can discuss any difficulties you may be experiencing and we can work out – together – what type of support would best meet your needs. This is a confidential space to talk, work through concerns and identify practical steps to overcome difficulties. Following that we might:

  • Refer you for further support from Student Wellbeing, either from a mental health practitioner or a counsellor
  • Refer you to other areas in our university and / or external services
  • Refer you to a range of self-help materials to help work through problems you are experiencing

Access resources and tools

Our range of online resources provide you with information, advice and tools aimed at promoting your mental wellbeing and supporting others around you.

If you're not sure where to start then your Wellbeing team are always here to help, to get started you'll need to register your details. To make sure we can get you the right support, all students that register will be asked to book for an initial consultation. Our service is open Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays). Our opening hours are Monday to Thursday 09:00 to 17:00 and Friday 09:00 to 16:30.

We also have an A-Z guide of all the support offered with signposts to relevant support.
