What are you studying at Leeds Beckett?

"I am passionate about studying English and love my course. I have always loved books and literature, and I have always loved to write. I grew up in Northern Ireland and saw the legacy of The Troubles all around me. It is my ambition to be able to write and tell stories based on the experience of growing up in that environment.

"I am really enjoying my time at Leeds Beckett so far. I have already been introduced to literature that I haven't read before - I have loved having my breadth of reading expanded. I am also really enjoying getting to know all of my lecturers, classmates and housemates.

What does the Bright Futures scholarship mean to you?

“Living with Fibromyalgia means that I am often in a great deal of pain, and it causes uncertainty and difficulty in everyday life, affecting my mobility and causing me a lot of anxiety. My condition means that money worries affect me in how I can get to university for on campus classes. When my condition is bad I can find it hard to leave the house and walk to campus, and it causes me stress and affects my mental health worrying about getting to campus for classes. The scholarship will mean that I am no longer worrying about when I might need to pay for travel, as well as no longer worrying about other university costs.
