Access to medtech funding and experience
Through Grow MedTech, academics and companies can gain access to funding, skills and experience to help them take their medical technologies forward.
The programme is creating a vibrant network of academics, companies, clinicians and patients that you can be part of. Grow MedTech provides funding for key points in the technology development process, to help academics take their ideas forward.
It supports companies looking to progress their technologies, by providing expertise, creating partnerships and access to funding. The programme aims to ensure the technologies developed are better aligned to patient needs, by involving them at every stage of the journey.
Funding is available for technologies from initial concepts through to proof of commercial concept - with further support available in finding sources of funding beyond this stage. More importantly, academics and companies can access sector-specialist expertise and advice to help them progress their technologies, create effective partnerships and leverage additional funding from other sources.
The programme helps projects bring together different disciplines and technologies – including digital and artificial intelligence (AI) – to enable partners to access the strongest market opportunities.

Innovating the medtech sector
Grow MedTech is a major UK programme providing specialist support for innovation in medical technologies, involving a consortium of six universities across the Leeds and Sheffield City Regions – including Leeds Beckett University. Its sector-specialist innovation support is helping to put these regions at the forefront of the UK’s medtech sector.
The project team acts as partnership brokers, proactively connecting people from academia, industry and clinical practice to collaborate on developing new medical technologies. Six skilled and experienced technology innovation managers are based within each partner university, but work collectively as a team, connecting with academics, companies and clinicians from across the regions. Grow MedTech’s ambition is to involve patients at every stage of the journey.
In partnership
Grow MedTech is a collaboration between the Universities of Bradford, Huddersfield, Leeds Beckett, Sheffield Hallam and York, led by the University of Leeds and funded through the Research England Connecting Capability Fund.
