Carnegie School of Sport partnership

Leeds United Football Club

The important work we’ve done together – from elite standard to grassroots sport – has not only led to some exciting opportunities for our staff and students, but created lasting and positive impacts across the wider community.

Leeds United Football Club

Our partnership with Leeds United has enabled rich research to be conducted, developing our understanding of sports, through to helping to improve our teaching, performance and standards, and shaping a clear path for our students to enter into interesting careers in football and other areas.

Our collaborative partnership also sees players regularly use our outstanding state-of-the-art facilities at our Headingley campus.

We are excited about building on this following the Leeds United men’s team’s promotion to the Premier League.

Impact of our partnership

  1. Student experience

Our students are given brilliant opportunities to access quality learning and practical experiences with a club right on our doorstep.

  2. Sports performance support

In an affirmation of our partnership, the Carnegie School of Sport has a Memorandum of Understanding with Leeds United to provide sports performance support. This sees our academics and students work closely with the first, academy and women’s teams.

  3. Internships and postgraduate research opportunities

We are proud that our partnership gives ongoing opportunities for coaching internships and to our PhD and MRes students to become embedded within the club, enabling them to carry out research central to their studies whilst undertaking practical work within an elite sporting environment.

  4. Research with impact

We are at the forefront of research in areas including health and nutrition, training and match play demands.

  5. Industry experience

The club also gives regular opportunities to our undergraduates across Business and Sports to gain vital industry experience and insight in areas such as commercial operations and hospitality.

  6. Player development

And with the launch of the Carnegie International Soccer Academy – a ground-breaking partnership between Leeds Beckett University and Leeds United – we are helping talented football players develop their ability and graduate with greater opportunities on and off the field.

  7. Career opportunities

This long-standing partnership continues to open up positive career opportunities for our students, with many of our alumni taking up roles at Leeds United, further positioning Leeds Beckett University as shaping the future of sport.
