Your Accommodation

We have a range of high-quality accommodation including wheelchair-accessible rooms, interconnecting rooms for students with a PA, ensuite rooms and larger rooms for students who need extra space for equipment.

How to Apply

We have a self-allocation system but hold some rooms back from the general booking system for students who have specific requirements. Rooms held back include:

  • Wheelchair-accessible rooms
  • On-campus rooms
  • Ensuite rooms
  • Larger rooms

If you require one of these rooms, we recommend that you speak to the Accommodation Team before booking so we can discuss your options and locate suitable accommodation for you.

As part of the online booking process, we ask all students if they have a disability. You do not need to declare a disability but it can be useful to ensure that your accommodation meets your needs and that we can offer you the best support whilst you’re living with us. This information will not be shared with your flatmates. We may share this information with our partners who run the accommodation so they can carry out a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan (PEEP).

Below is a list of common adaptations or items we can provide:

  • Wheelchair accessible room – larger room, larger wet-room bathroom, push-button doors, grab rails, shower seats, low or adjustable worktops
  • Medical fridges – for the storing of medical items and prescription drugs only
  • Deafguard
  • Seizure Mat

You can request these items via the online form and if they are requested by 31st July we will ensure the items are in your room on arrival. For any requests received after that date, we will aim to have your equipment in your room on arrival or as soon as possible after that date.

If you require an item not on the list above then please let us know as soon as possible by emailing accommodation@leedsbeckett.ac.uk, we will review the request as a reasonable adjustment and let you know if we can facilitate your request. If we cannot meet your request, we will try to offer you alternative options.

Some students with disabilities prefer to move into their accommodation early when it is quieter and to have additional time to settle in. We facilitate that where possible and requests to arrive early can be made in the ‘Useful Links’ section of the online portal once you have accepted your licence agreement.

If you would like to come and view your accommodation before you arrive to check it meets your needs, we may be able to facilitate this in the summer once the current residents have moved out, subject to the room being vacant. To arrange a visit please email accommodation@leedsbeckett.ac.uk.

Get the support you need

Whatever your needs, we have lots of support in place to help disabled students have a great university experience.

If you think you may have particular accommodation requirements then contact the Accommodation Office as soon as possible so that any arrangements are taken care of before you arrive.

Make sure you also register with the Disability Advice team so that you can get the best support and advice during your studies.

I really like how the events are a way to connect with more people - as a disabled student I often struggle to go out socially with uni full time.
