Paying rent

How do I pay my rent at Leeds Beckett?

Rent can be paid in two ways:

  • Direct Debit in three instalments (view the rent instalments). This is set up when you accept your licence agreement. If you haven't got a student bank account yet, just use an existing one and log back in to swap it over when you can
  • Pay in full before you arrive. To pay your rent in full, use the university's online payments facility

You'll need to have set one of these up before you arrive to be able to collect your keys.

If at any point throughout your licence you have queries or concerns about your rent payments or direct debit then please contact our Finance Department.

RENT PAYMENTS

When you accept your licence agreement with the university, you become liable for the duration of the licence period. The amounts and the due dates for payment are set out in the university's licence agreement for your accommodation. The preferred method of payment for rent is by direct debit and you can set this up with us upon acceptance of your licence online.

If your payment is late you may face one or more of the following consequences:

  • The university may terminate your licence agreement on the grounds of non-payment if payment under the agreement has not been paid within 14 days from and including the payment date. You will be charged interest on any rent due under the agreement which has not been made within 14 days from and including the payment date at the rate of 3% per annum above the base rate of the Bank of England
  • The university may take legal action against you for unpaid rent, as well as any additional associated costs

If you opt for early access to your room, the university will add this to the first direct debit instalment. If we are unable to provide you with sufficient notice to change the amount of the direct debit, the university will issue an invoice for the additional rent charge which must be paid within seven days of the invoice date.

If you wish to extend your existing licence agreement beyond the licence end date or new applicants who only wish to occupy accommodation for a short stay, will be issued with a specific invoice for this period. Terms of payment are within seven days of the invoice date unless otherwise agreed.

You should direct any queries about rent payments to the finance team by emailing creditcontrol@leedsbeckett.ac.uk.
