Studying English and History

I'm in my first term of university at Leeds Beckett and already I’ve learned so much. I chose History and English as I believe they are subjects that inspire us to grow and revolutionise as a society.

My course is full of concepts and ideas that seek to challenge societal norms and inspire me to question the world around me.

Leeds Beckett offers such a great choice of modules for my course and I love that I'm continuously learning new things and being supported along the way.

How will The Bright Futures Scholarship help?

My academic journey has not always been easy. Throughout my life I’ve struggled with dyspraxia and dyslexia, and I was only diagnosed professionally in my first term at university.

Since then I have realised the extent to which academic work has never come naturally for me, and how this has impacted on my ability to achieve and keep pace with my course mates.

The Bright Futures Scholarship will go towards providing software that will help me to overcome the challenges I face with my academic writing. Having access to this kind of technology will allow me to keep up with my peers and manage academic expectations from my lectures.

More importantly, however, this support will also encourage my own development and growth as a student and will help to build my confidence in my studies.
