By joining the Carnegie School of Sport you will become part of a buoyant and internationally renowned research community"
Professor Hayley Fitzgerald, Director of Postgraduate Research Students, Carnegie School of Sport
Collectively and purposefully driven by a focus on making a positive and decisive difference to people, communities and organisations, the Carnegie School of Sport is an appealing research environment for those wanting to develop and apply innovative, high-quality research. Our research culture is founded upon a genuine commitment and capacity to work with others on real-world applied interdisciplinary problems, to achieve impact beyond academia, for the benefit of wider society.
Pursuing an inclusive and ambitious research agenda, we cross the broad spectrum of the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. Our Postgraduate Research Studentship programme was established in 2008 and demonstrates our commitment to developing the next generation of leaders in the field. Currently, we have over 140 research students working alongside dedicated academics pursuing purpose-led and connected programmes of research with practitioners, industry experts and policymakers in the world of sport and physical activity. Our research investment is targeted towards multi- and interdisciplinary Research Centres that bring together expertise and builds critical mass.
Underpinning our success is the inclusive, supportive and collaborative ethos that runs through our research environment. We are passionate about providing our postgraduate researchers with every opportunity to achieve their potential, by working alongside an expert supervisory team. Students have the opportunity to engage with multiple research themes and centres, and join students across the university through our Graduate School and its training programmes. Collaboration with external national and international partner organisations is also a key feature of our research.
Our academic staff can help prospective postgraduate researchers develop their research proposals as part of the application process. We are also happy for prospective research students to visit the School to see the facilities and to meet academic staff and research students.
