Both my business and my professional life all come from this course I did.
Accounting and Finance was something that I had from a young age. I've been able to run my own business and understand the tax aspect and everything that goes behind, so that's what attracted me to the course.
Right now, I'm running my own business, Jenny's Jerk Chickens. It's in Leeds, and the course did help me. It did have an entrepreneurial start-up, so they were the first people to put any grant on my business.
Alongside that, I'm also an accountant in the army, which is the course that I studied here, and I met the army when the recruitment team came to Leeds Beckett and I did sign up at the time.
I enjoy everything about my course. Sometimes it's a bit demanding, but once you get organised and know what you're doing, it should be okay, and being a student rep, I was a lot involved with student activities, so I really enjoyed that.
For me, the biggest lesson was to always help people out, because the same help that I had when I came here on the open day was also the same help that I wanted to give to others. Student and teacher was always there for me and the biggest lesson is always to listen and follow what your instructors are telling you, because they are there to help you. Unless you listen to them, you won't be able to pass your course as you would like to do.
Everything for running your business requires you to have some level of confidence, and being a student rep like I mentioned already did help my confidence a lot so that was one of the biggest points for me.
Leeds is such a cultural city. It's very diverse and it's becoming one of the biggest places to run your business, so if you're running your business in Leeds, there's so many people and so many places where you can get help from, and one of them is Leeds Beckett University. There's always tips and tricks and people that you can meet and talk to to be able to improve your business.
